The NHA Parent Portal allows parents and guardians to access their child's information online through their computer or smart phone. Parents can view student grades, fill out school forms, contact school staff, check attendance record, view the school calendar, make payments for school lunch, and view your notifications or account settings. Honors Common Core Algebra I is a full year Honors Level Course that emphasizes the Common Core and New York State standards in 8 th grade Mathematics. Students will encounter challenging tasks that allow them to not only perform the functions of Algebra but prove and justify the concepts.
This full year course fulfills the NYS Living Environment Requirement and includes the 1200 minute NYS State required lab component. The course emphasizes an in depth understanding of major concepts rather than memorization of science facts. Key topics covered in this course include:
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced that they will continue serving meals to children at no cost, through June 30, 2022 . This will ensure, no matter what the situation is, children have access to nutritious food as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students in various grade levels can participate in our S.T.E.A.M. programs, which include but are not limited to those described below.
This lab course concentrates on the study of living organisms. Labs assist scholars to investigate objectives presented in class. Scholars practice and master such concepts as safety, graphing, measurement in the metric system, use of the computer, laboratory procedure, and working with laboratory equipment are stressed.
This project-based course emphasizes coding in the language Visual Basic to focus upon the logic and structure of a computer program. This computer language is the medium through which these concepts are introduced and developed.
Students recognize the importance of our recycling club and how it has helped our school become more environmentally conscious. Recycling bins are in classrooms, workrooms, and office spaces to encourage students and staff to recycle paper. The recycling club collects these bins and takes the paper to our large recycling bin outside for pickup.
Our students play a role in collaborating with other community members to tend to the Newkirk Community Garden , a gathering place for neighbors and friends to experience nature and grow in environmental stewardship.
We encourage critical thinking with S.T.E.A.M. - science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. These are included in several of our programs including science lab, coding class, recycling club, local community garden, and cross-curricular learning in music and art.
We offer music classes for our scholars to express themselves through music and teamwork. Middle school students in band receive lessons in wind, brass and percussion instruments.
