Although our program focuses primarily on reading and encouraging lifelong habits of reading, we also encourage healthy habits of being good citizens at Central Heights as well as in the world around us.

What is the current absenteeism rate at Central Heights ISD?

At this time, we are approaching 20% absenteeism for teachers and staff. With the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on January 17th, Central Heights ISD will close on Friday the 14th and Tuesday the 18th to allow staff and students to recuperate from the virus. Classes will resume on Wednesday, January the 19th at regular time.

What is dual credit at Central Heights?

Dual Credit / Concurrent Enrollment Dual credit courses offered at Central Heights High School award both high school and college credit upon successful completion. Concurrent enrollment is a college course taken during the student’s high school years that is not offered for high school credit. Both of these enrollment systems are ways for students to earn college credit while still in high school. A student must meet the admission requirements of the college or university in order for a high school student to be admitted into a dual credit/ concurrent or tech program.

Please note that while this free breakfast and lunch program is available to us for 2021 – 2022, the income eligibility requirement will likely resume in the 2022 – 2023 school year. During the first week of school, each student will receive a packet of paperwork that needs to be completed. While no application or eligibility determination process will be required for your student to receive free meals this school year, we are asking ALL families to complete the included ‘Socioeconomic Information Form’. This form will not be used against you in any way, as it is not used for any sort of individual qualification purposes. It is confidential and will only be used in summary for TEA to examine our CHISD school population as a whole. Our student population determines the amount of funding available to our school district and factors into our accountability ratings, so we need these forms completed to make sure our school continues to benefit from these special programs. Below is a letter explaining the ‘Seamless Summer Option’ in English & Spanish. There is a also a copy of the ‘Socioeconomic Information Form’ so that you can see what to look for.

Central Heights ISD uses a texting informational system called ‘Remind’ to share important messages, reminders about upcoming events, weather delays or school closing info. We encourage all parents and students to sign up for their campus alerts.
