Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC takes extensive precautions to protect the health information and identity of our patients. Answering personal questions are required to ensure an accurate identity for a patient account.
Parents, legal guardians, and patients may sign-up during a hospital stay, at a clinic appointment, at an outreach location, or at the kiosk in your local mall. You will be asked to provide an email address and complete a consent form.

The patient cannot grant access to a parent to restore access. My child with special needs is over the age of 18. Can I set up a MyChildren’s account? Yes, as long as you have guardianship papers on file with Boston Children’s, you can access your child’s information with your MyChildren’s account.
Scheduled admissions from home, clinics, and outside facilities check in with the Admissions office upon arrival for registration and to arrange transportation to the hospital unit. The main admissions office is open from 7 a.m. to midnight daily, including weekends and holidays.
Patients of any age in a medical emergency can be seen in the Emergency Department. The Patient Access Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. An account is created for every visit, which starts the billing process.
Patients with scheduled outpatient procedures check in at Same-Day Surgery, Floor 4, from 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Patient demographic information is verified and updated, and the proper consent forms and documentation are completed.
The Patient Access Department has a Financial Counselor who identifies and assists patients who are unable to pay their estimated liability prior to treatments or who have large outstanding balances. This assistance includes linking patients to available funding sources such as State Medical Assistance programs or by establishing payment plans.
Parents will no longer have access to their child’s information once the patient turns 18. The patient cannot grant access to a parent to restore access. My child with special needs is over the age of 18.

MyChildren’s is a convenient, easy-to-use, and secure way to access your child’s health information. Using MyChildren’s, you can: view portions of your child’s health record. send secure messages to your care team. view and update your contact information. view and pay your bills online.
Clinical notes are available as soon as your provider completes them. Lab results — including tests done in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency department settings — will display as soon as they are resulted. Diagnostic test reports are available as soon as they are resulted.
