Colorado Ballet presents exceptional classical ballet and innovative dance through performances, training and education programs that are integral to the cultural life of our community.
Ballet is the cornerstone of Colorado Ballet Society’s curriculum. We currently follow the American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum. Dancers may begin as early as age 2.5 in our Sparkle and Superhero programs, where they learn age-appropriate skills and expression.
This class tends to be high-energy and face-paced while still emphasizing the proper technique needed for student safety as well as technical and artistic growth. Students are highly encouraged to audition for annual musicals with Elevate Productions, the resident theater performance company of Colorado Ballet Society.
Great performance experiences, world class dance instruction at all levels and ages, and opportunities to support your community through the sharing of quality art is at the core of Colorado Conservatory of Dance.
Colorado Ballet Society developed and offers this specially designed preparation program as part of our focus on health and safety for the young dancer. The curriculum for the class includes a look into history and how dancing on pointe evolved; a basic understanding of the anatomy of the foot, as well as the structure of the pointe shoe; proper foot care; and how to care for and sew ribbons and elastic onto pointe shoes. Most importantly, you will be taught theraband, Pilates, and physical therapy exercises designed to strengthen the structures of the foot and ankle, while continuing to work on placement and strengthening of the legs and core.
A conditioning regime allows dancers the opportunity to strengthen their bodies to complement their technical and stylistic dance training and , above all, prevent injuries. Conditioning typically includes Cardiovascular Exercises, Flexibility Exercises, Strength Exercises, Core/Abdominal Work, and Arm/ Back/Leg Work while reiterating the purpose of the exercise and focusing on the execution, placement, and alignment of the body. This class will benefit any dancer wanting to enhance technique and strength by offering an understanding of how to use muscles correctly and safely.
The definition of stretch is; a form of physical exercise in which a specific muscle or tendon (or muscle group) is deliberately flexed or stretched to improve the muscle's felt elasticity and achieve comfortable muscle tone. The result is a feeling of increased muscle control, flexibility, and range of motion.

"The safety of our dancers, staff and audiences is our highest priority, and we want to ensure that everyone who experiences Colorado Ballet's in-person performances in the future is able to do so safely. We have worked with all constituencies to evaluate every possible option. After many months of discussions and monitoring the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have unfortunately been forced to realize that we cannot safely conduct performances at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House for the remainder of 2020."#N#"This is certainly not the way we hoped to open our 60th Anniversary Season," stated Boggs. "The Nutcracker was our first production 60 years ago, so it's very difficult for us to imagine a holiday season without it. We were looking forward to unveiling new sets and costumes for our 60th anniversary performance, but now hope to unveil them for The Nutcracker in 2021. We are extremely grateful to all our patrons and supporters for helping to build Colorado Ballet into the strong and vital organization it is today.
