Franconian International School. The Franconian International School is an IB World School with high expectations and rigorous educational standards. In a values-based and caring environment, young people are supported in becoming active and engaged global citizens and life-long learners.
An education at the Franconian International School provides your children with the best preconditions for success anywhere in the world. Students need to know that the device needs to be cared for and that there will be consequences for misuse and if it is broken because of carelessness. Home use needs to be addressed up front. The device is supposed to be used for learning, for homework and school work.
The FIS E-Learning Plan guides technology purchases, training, and use to enhance creativity, communication, critical thinking, and the dispositions of responsible citizens. Teachers are professional educators and experts in their fields, aware of the developmental needs of children.
Students taking music classes will learn about applications of technology for composing music.
A focus for the students is using technology to design and create products. Since assignments are posted online and students bring their own device to school, learning to effectively organize digital work, find answers and solve problems independently are important skills.
Grades 6 to 8: iPads are required for Grade 6 and Grade 7 students. Grade 8 students have the option to choose between bringing a laptop and an iPad. Students have two Design classes per week and other lessons where ICT teachers assist with technology use in the class.
The Franconian International School believes Information and Communications Technology (ICT) plays an essential role helping students contribute their ideas and insight responsibly to an ever-changing world. At the FIS, the ICT curriculum is used to enhance student learning by developing and applying technology skills in integrated ways.
Yes, Middle School and High School students will be expected to bring their devices to every class, but they will not always use them in every lesson or every class. Teachers have been asked to use the technology when and where it can support or enhance learning.
The IPC Personal Goals underpin those individual qualities and learning dispositions we believe children will find essential in the 21st century. As global citizens with opportunities to explore an array of diverse occupations, there is an increased need for different and revised knowledge, skills and understandings.
The curriculum for Primary students at the FIS is centred around the IPC: The International Primary Curriculum. The IPC is currently used in over 1000 schools in 65 countries around the world.
The goal of the IPC is for children to focus on a combination of academic, personal and international learning.
The students learn through a series of IPC units of work. Each unit of work has an interesting and relevant theme. Examples of these themes includes: Circus, Treasure, Rainforest, and Our Place in Space.
The IPC focuses children’s learning on a combination of knowledge, skills and understanding. As the world becomes more global the single career gives way to a lifelong portfolio of different occupations and there is an increased need for different and revised knowledge, skills and understandings.

Thanks to the initiative of adidas and the city of Herzogenaurach the FIS opens its doors in September 1998 in the urban quarter Haundorf. 25 students start their first school year in a combined Grade 1 and 2 class.
In August 2015 the High School students move to their own building FIS II, in short walking distance from the main campus.
In August 2008 the FIS occupies its own, purpose-built campus with state-of-the-art facilities in Erlangen. It includes modern classrooms, fully equipped science labs, specialist art and music rooms, two PC labs, library, cafeteria, an auditorium and a double gymnasium.
If you would like to learn more about the earlier years of the FIS, please refer to the FIS Festschrift (see below) which was published in fall 2008 for the Grand Opening of the new FIS facilities in Erlangen.
The Franconian International School Since 1998. The Franconian International School was founded in 1998 to serve the needs of a growing international community in the Nürnberg, Erlangen, Fürth and Herzogenaurach area.
The city of Herzogenaurach provides an empty convent, also located in about 15 minutes walking distance to the Elementary School. Due to the high enrolment of the school, the building is simultaneously extended with container classes.
