Global Citizen Year Academy Our intensive leadership experience (delivered virtually) brings together determined young changemakers worldwide to build leadership skills for solving global challenges. The Academy is designed as a 7-10 hour per week commitment that adds an enriching layer of purpose to school, gap years, or work.

Global Citizen Year is the only program that recruits and selects the most promising future leaders (independent of financial circumstances) and helps them to develop the insights, skills, and networks needed to drive social impact over the course of their lives.

Global Citizen Year covers your medical and evacuation insurance so that in the unlikely case of an emergency, you will be well taken care of. On-going leadership training. Tuition includes on-going leadership training throughout your Global Citizen Year.
Tuition for Global Citizen Year Academy is $5,000 USD. The tuition amount is inclusive of the $500 deposit. Tuition will be invoiced through Quickbooks and can be paid on-line. For the Fall 2021 semester, tuition is due by August 20th, 2021.

SIM card & credit. To ensure Fellows can easily communicate in country, Global Citizen Year provides all Fellows with a SIM card to put in their personal phone, plus emergency phone credit. Based on financial need, Fellows may qualify for a loaner phone. Tuition does NOT include.
As part of our commitment to advancing equity and opportunity for all, we award need-based scholarships to qualified applicants who would not otherwise be able to afford our leadership experiences.
Each semester, we carefully review all incoming scholarship applications, and regularly have more outstanding candidates than scholarships available. We are dedicated to making the Academy accessible to talented young leaders from all backgrounds.
Complete the online application for the Academy as usual. If you are unable to afford the tuition, there’s a check-box on the application where you can indicate that, if accepted, you would like to apply for a need-based scholarship.

Become part of a select cohort of promising young changemakers. Together, your global cohort will kick things off with a week at Stanford University where you'll get the foundation to make the most of your gap year.
Land in your new country and begin easing into deep immersion. You'll start with a six week series of trainings, language tutoring, and progressively longer stays with your host family. Soon you'll truly become part of your host family and community. At your apprenticeship you'll get to work on local projects for responsible impact.
