We are really pushing hard to get our teachers to use Google Classroom this coming year. Like most schools these days, one of our 'big deal' items is providing more communication to parents about what goes on in class, homework, and their child's academic performance.
Today, we’re announcing a new feature that will launch in time for back-to-school that will allow parents/guardians to receive updates on their student’s activity! You’re receiving this email because you previously submitted feedback requesting this feature. We heard you loud and clear.
The feature was added last week, so there is very little information on it. I did play with it some, and it looks like the teacher needs to manually add a parent email to the student. Once that is done they will get an email with a listing of the assignments posted.
Actually Google answered my question for me by rolling it out here yesterday.
We are also pushing for more teachers to use Google Classroom. We went 1:1 with Chromebooks for 8th grade. We want to eliminate a paper planner, but the teachers still want the students to have the responsibility to write down assignments, and not all teachers will be posting assignments in Classroom at first.
Zee, why not have students use Tasks, that is built into Gmail? Or google Keep? Our school uses Google Classroom as the primary means for handing out assignments and it was the teachers that lead the adoption of it rather than a push from above.
Thanks. I LOVE Google Keep ...students don't have Gmail...we are k-8 so gmail is turned off for students.
Google Classroom is the digital portal through which your kid’s teacher will be able to post their homework and assignments, make announcements, share class news and ask questions.
At first, it may seem a little complicated, but as you explore Google Classroom’s options, you will find that it is really quite simple. Here is how it works:
When a Google Classroom is being set up, the teacher will have to send the invitation through either a code or a link. With this link or code, your child will be able to join the Classroom. Your child will be sent to classroom.google.com.
If the kids are using their own Gmail accounts for their Classroom, it is easy to adjust their settings. All you need to do is go to their Google Account page and then adjust the privacy settings.
There are so many websites and apps that can be used along with Google Classroom. These will partner with Google, but some will be considered add-ons. These will be available in the Chrome Store. Using these apps will make the class more fun and interactive.
Whenever your child’s teacher posts something new or posts a new announcement for the class, your child will receive an email to notify them about this announcement.
There are so many questions that parents have with regards to Google Classroom, and rightfully so. Their children will be spending a lot of time and sharing some information through this portal, after all. Here are some frequently asked questions that parents often ask:
Thanks for reaching out to the Classroom Help centre Community. When you invite parents, they can’t get into Classroom. The teacher must first invite the parent by adding their email address under their child’s name on Google Classroom. This can be done under the “People” tab. The parent will then receive an email and must accept the invitation to begin receiving the guardian email summaries.
It is a great way to keep parents in the loop so that they know what assignments their child has, as well as whether they are keeping up with their work. When parents join Classroom, they receive automatic email summaries for each of their learners.
It is important to note that parents cannot access any part of your Google Classroom or view your class stream. Therefore, they do not have access to view their child’s grades. Educators will need to find other ways to maintain a steady line of parent communication to keep them informed of their child’s progress and grades.
