Gulledge Elementary, an exemplary school, got its name from an early Plano pioneer, Joe H. Gulledge. Joe H. Gulledge was born in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, on November 25, 1857. Having lost everything in the Civil War, his family moved to Texas and settled in Lewisville.
By 1884 -1885, the store became known as Graham and Gulledge and was located one door west of the southwest corner of Main (currently Avenue K) and Mechanic Street (currently 15th Street). There the store remained, though the fire of 1895 burned much of the business district.
After the fire, Graham and Gulledge dissolved their partnership, and Gulledge went into business for himself , establishing the J.H. Gulledge store downtown. In the rebuilt store, the business flourished and became one of the biggest dry goods establishments in Collin County.
Gulledge Elementary School's student population of 662 students has stayed relatively flat over five school years.
Gulledge Elementary School is ranked within the top 5% of all 8,043 schools in Texas (based off of combined math and reading proficiency testing data) for the 2018-19 school year.
Niche ranks nearly 100,000 schools and districts based on statistics and millions of opinions from students and parents.
This is the percentage of students that scored at or above proficiency levels on their state reading/language arts assessment test. Because states implement these tests differently, use caution when comparing this data to data from another state.
Based on racial and economic diversity and survey responses on school culture and diversity from students and parents.
Student-Teacher Ratio may not be indicative of class size. It is calculated using the reported number of students and full-time equivalent teachers.
