Whilst our girls and boys are away from physical school, their education will continue through the Connected School. The Connected School will ensure that all aspects of a pupil’s education will continue in full.
Pupils should expect their school days to run as normal, according to normal timings. Days will begin with Call, followed by Lists, Chapel, Assembly or tutor time, after which lessons will begin online. Activities and the full co-curriculum will be offered, as will a wide variety of social and pastoral events, run through your child’s House.
Pupils have a School issued iPad through which they can access Google Classroom and Google Meet: these are our primary methods of instruction and dissemination of materials. Other apps are installed accordingly.
Our girls and boys will be taught using adapted teaching methods. We will use all of our expertise in planning and delivery subject content and combine this with our understanding of high quality online learning tools to ensure that lessons are as effective in the Connected School as they are when pupils are physically present.
We check the pupils’ engagement on an ongoing basis through attendance in lessons, House events and the co-curriculum. We inform parents and carers immediately if there are any concerns or issues raised regarding either attendance or the quality of work produced.
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home.
Where individual pupils need to self-isolate but the majority of their peer group remains in school, they will access the School and their learning as above. All lessons will continue to take place with the pupils joining electronically and expectations of the pupils will remain the same.
Exam leave is offered to pupils at Haileybury in order to support them in their preparation for public examinations. It is our experience that pupils benefit most from exam leave in the period immediately preceding examinations and that pupils are generally not best servedby longperiods of exam leave. It is ouraimat Haileybury to keep teaching for as long as possible and to limit exam leave to those periods when it is likely to be of most benefit to pupils.
It is a privilege, not a right, for a pupil to have a car at Haileybury. In all cases, when a pupil brings a car, permission must be obtained on ocial forms, available from the Head of Sixth Form, after consultation with the HM of the pupil. These forms set out the full conditions.
If they choose to stay at school there are events or trips on both the Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. If they choose not to stay at school , boarders may leave after their sporting commitment on Saturdays. Parents must give permission to the HM if their daughter or son is to leave school for a Saturday night and stay with anybody apart from them.
