Rich academics, fine and practical arts, experiential learning and land stewardship come together with a dedicated community, purposeful work and joy. Our approach is unhurried and intentional, meeting each child at their unique stage of development.
Choose the path that celebrates your child and offers them a healthy journey to well-developed capacities - intellectual, social, emotional, creative, and physical.
Hartsbrook offers Waldorf Education for children just born through twelfth grade. Academics, arts, experiential learning and land stewardship come together with a dedicated community, purposeful work, and joy. Our programs will nurture and support your child on their journey to becoming life-long learners.
I love that Hartsbrook has helped my children to see the world as a place of goodness, to appreciate their worth as individuals and to deal with challenges head on. In all interactions there is deep integrity, graciousness and joy.
Together we will learn how to observe and meet a baby’s needs at different developmental stages, and how to create a home life that supports healthy and joyful growth. We enroll “expecting parents” into this class as well as parents with babies up to 18 months.
Parents and children meet for a weekly class that gives a taste of the Waldorf Early Childhood program. Together we enjoy a morning of work and creative play, songs, outdoor time, and connection with each other. We offer a supportive environment for both child and parent during the early years of parenting.
Young children thrive on opportunities to connect with the wonder and freedom of the outdoors. In our outdoor class, parents and children take nature walks, collect leaves, make crafts, share a hot meal, and enjoy the company of other young families. A classroom is available for quiet time if needed.

During the first years of life, children build a foundation of health that stays with them throughout their entire lives.
In our Early Childhood classrooms, we provide rich exposure to language and culture through stories, songs and verses. Children experience social interactions through play and practical activity.
The Hartsbrook School’s Forest Kindergarten offers a sanctuary for childhood, tucked into the banks of a brook at the foot of the Seven Sisters Range. Here, the natural world provides a unique environment for the education of the whole child.
The Hartsbrook School Board of Directors has identified the following committees of the Board as those which would appreciate and welcome community participation in vital aspects of the life and well-being of our school. We look forward to expanded collaboration within our community in order to continue to nourish and sustain Hartsbrook and Waldorf Education on behalf of our current and future students.

Students in Grades 1–12 may be dropped off in the turnaround loop at the main entrance of Hartsbrook Hall. Parking is not allowed in the loop, and cars may only idle as long as necessary to drop off students. If parents/guardians need to come into the building or have a conversation with someone, please park in the parking lots. Please use spaces efficiently and carpool when you can as space is limited. Parents are responsible for children on school grounds before arrival and after dismissal. Children are not allowed in the parking area unaccompanied by an adult.
Morning recess begins at 10:35 and ends at 10:55. All students must be outdoors by 10:45, unless they are excused by their teacher. Students who have not finished snack by 10:45 must bring their food outdoors and finish it, sitting at a designated location, before playing. Students who bring a note from home that they need to stay indoors for health reasons stay in the Hartsbrook Hall lobby.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled in late October and early November. During a conference, parents and teachers review the student’s progress and discuss any questions that the parents may have. Additional conferences may be arranged with the teacher by request.
Parent involvement has been key to the success of the Hartsbrook School since its founding. The school welcomes and encourages parents to take part in the life of the school. Parents may participate formally as members of committees or working groups, through the Family Association or as Class Parents. Meeting schedules for committees will be announced in the school Bulletin.
If a prospective parent/guardian cannot attend an Open House , a school visit can be arranged by contacting the Enrollment Office.
