Students who have never attended a HCPSS school must be registered by their custodial parent (biological, adoptive, legal guardian). Children must be 5 years old by September 1 in order to enroll in kindergarten. Every child who is 5 years old by September 1 must be enrolled in a kindergarten program this fall or have an approved waiver.
An identification process is used to decide if a child may have a disability and, therefore, needs further assessments. If the IEP team decides that a child may have a disability and be in need of special education, the team recommends assessments to determine eligibility and identify the child’s educational needs.
The Howard County Public School System welcomes visitors to our schools. To limit interruptions and distractions to teaching and learning and to maximize safety for all, persons who wish to visit a school campus, building or classroom are asked to comply with our safety and security procedures.
