Students in Mrs. Nelson’s 8th grade Ancient World History class read laws written during the Mauryan Empire in India (321 BCE – 185 BCE) and attempted to recreate the giant lion-topped pillars that proclaimed them. King Ashoka built these pillars over 2000 years ago to urge his subjects to follow the nonviolent ways of Buddhism.
