In 2018-2019 South Carolina used the End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) to test middle and high school students in Algebra I, Biology I, English I, and US History & the Constitution. The EOCEP provides tests for high school core courses and for courses taken in middle school for high school credit. The EOCEP is a standards-based test program, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of South Carolina. The goal is for all students to score a D or above.
The SC Ready is a statewide assessment that includes tests in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics administered to students in grades 3-8. All students in grades 3-8 are required to participate in the SC READY, except those who qualify for the South Carolina Alternate Assessment (SC-Alt). The initial administration of the SC READY was in spring 2016, and the SC READY test results will be used for state and federal accountability purposes.
One key way the best schools help all students learn is by giving them voice and choice.
