When California was formed in 1850, Mariposa County was one of the original 27 counties and covered one-fifth of the state. The County was reapportioned to create all of parts of 11 other counties giving rise to the nickname the “Mother of Counties.”
The Madera-Mariposa SELPA is a two-county SELPA, serving over 3,500 students with disabilities. A full continuum of services is provided to students ranging in age from birth to 22, with varying disabilities.
The Madera-Mariposa SELPA is responsible for the implementation of the Madera-Mariposa Special Education Local Plan and for insuring a free appropriate public education to all students with identified disabilities according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
