What is mates?

MATES is a free, public charter school that serves K-5 students in Thousand Oaks. The guiding principle that drives MATES is simple. We collectively believe that children deserve our best effort in providing a safe, stimulating, enriched learning environment where every child thrives.

What is the student experience like at mates?

Our student experience is enriched by student clubs, organizations, and volunteer opportunities. MATES is a competitive program offered through the Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) that accepts applications from eighth-grade students who are considered residents of Ocean County.

Student life at MATES is incredibly supportive. Our teachers develop caring relationships with our students, allowing for the adaptation of curricula to meet the social, emotional and educational needs of everyone. Our student experience is enriched by student clubs, organizations, and volunteer opportunities.

ADMISSIONS

MATES is a competitive program offered through the Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) that accepts applications from eighth-grade students who are considered residents of Ocean County. There are three information sessions in the fall and all inquiries about MATES are handled through our OCVTS admissions office only.

The Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science (MATES) is designed to provide its students with a rigorous academic curriculum with a concentration in the areas of math, science and technology. MATES provides a unique and challenging hands-on learning experience.

MATES is a specialized high school developed around the marine and environmental science theme. MATES is geared toward students who wish to concentrate their studies in the areas of math and science.

Where Are We Located

Located in Manahawkin, New Jersey, MATES is centrally located to the south of New York City, north of Atlantic City, and east of Philadelphia.
