There’s an open-door policy at the Merlin School and we believe communication between home and school is key. Parents have the opportunity to meet teachers in the playground daily and can also make an appointment to see us at other times to suit.
The focus of Marlin ISD, a community of unique, diverse people, is to provide an exceptional learning experience in a safe, nurturing environment, challenging our students to achieve academic excellence and to be responsible, productive, and ethical members of a changing society.
Because accurate spelling supports Merlin children’s reading and writing, we ensure that our robust and differentiated spelling scheme helps them develop confidence with the phonic structure of language.
We have a broad curriculum encompassing stories, poetry, drama and non-fiction. Moreover, we recognise that excellent expression in English requires assimilation of reading, writing, spelling, speaking and listening. It is these five main areas that form the basis of our English curriculum.

Merlin is divided into a Lower and Upper School: Reception and Year 1 make up the Lower School; Years 2 and 3 form the Upper School.
We seek to provide an atmosphere in which every pupil is able to achieve his or her maximum potential in a supported environment. The school also recognises that pupils will only achieve their best in an environment in which they feel safe, valued and respected.
Our school hours are 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 12.30pm, Friday. See below for after-school clubs.
We hold assemblies twice a week for the whole school, on a Monday and Friday. Class assemblies are performed once a week and parents are invited in to watch these in the Ballroom, as the audience.
Lunches are prepared daily on the premises by our dedicated catering staff. We offer brown bread and fresh fruit with every meal and can accommodate special dietary needs.

A variety of after-school clubs are offered on a Monday for the Upper School, as well as Chess Club (at a small additional cost) on a Wednesday afternoon. All of the year groups enjoy school trips each term and topic work is often reinforced by visits to appropriate places of interest or by interesting visitors to the school.
