The McKinney-Vento Act provides certain rights for homeless students. They include waiving certain requirements such as proof of residency when students are enrolling and allowing categorical eligibility for certain services, such as free textbooks. The Act also states: 1 Homeless students may attend their school of origin or the school where they are temporarily 2 Homeless students must be provided a written statement of their rights when they enroll and at least two times per 3 Homeless students may enroll without school, medical, or similar records. 4 Homeless students have a right to transportation to 5 Students must be provided a statement explaining why they are denied any service or 6 Students must receive services, such as transportation, while disputes are being 7 Students are automatically eligible for Title I services. 8 Aaron Hoopingarner is the homeless liaison for Yorktown Community Schools. Yorktown Community Schools Report Card Information can be accessed via the website below under the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) Compass site. This report cards complies with the ESSA requirements for any building that receives Title I assistance.
When a child’s score on either the norm-referenced measure of achievement or reasoning falls just below the cutoff, additional data in the form of teacher and parent rating scales will be reviewed to determine appropriate placement. The district recognizes that cognitive growth is not always consistent.
