How do I transfer schools in San Jose unified?

Transfers within SJUSD: Current and active students may apply for a Secondary Transfer (grade 6-12) and must have a satisfactory academic, behavior, and attendance record. Students who currently attend an Alternative ED school and/or have a CWA placement will need to have their transfer application approved by the appropriate department.

Where is the San José Unified Enrollment Center?

How to Enroll

We accept student enrollments online and in person. The Enrollment Center is open Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm. New enrollments are accepted until 4 pm each day.

Serving over 30,000 students from transitional kindergarten through high school, San José Unified is home to 41 schools from Downtown San José in the north to Almaden Valley in the south. Transitional Kindergarten Enrollment

The Transitional Kindergarten program is expanding for the 2022-2023 school year. Children who meet one of the following criteria are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten: • Children who turn 4 by February 2, 2022 • Children who turn 4 by September 1, 2022 and live within the boundaries of the following schools:

Kindergarten Enrollment

All our elementary schools offer kindergarten. Children must turn 5 by September 1, 2022 to be eligible for kindergarten in the 2022-2023 school year.

Where is the San José Unified School District Board meeting?

San José Unified School District policy is discussed and set at Board of Education meetings. Meetings are held in person in the Board Room at 855 Lenzen Avenue, and all members of the public are welcome.

Does San José Unified School have transportation?

San José Unified offers school transportation to students who are eligible. Students must live within District boundaries to be eligible for transportation. Elementary school students (grades TK-5) who do not attend a magnet, charter, International Baccalaureate (IB), and/or Two-Way Bilingual Immersion (TWBI) school are eligible for transportation if they live 1.5 miles or more from their school of attendance.

What is San José Unified Network?

The San José Unified Network promotes family and community involvement at all levels of implementation. Our mission is to build the skills and capacity of leadership teams at the district and school levels through training, coaching, and technical assistance.

How many hours of community service do you need to graduate from San Jose?

That’s why we ask them to complete 40 hours of community service – or 10 hours per year of enrollment – in order to graduate. Schools may enforce their own guidelines as long as they do not conflict with the guidelines listed below and are approved by San José Unified.

Why do schools require uniforms?

Uniforms. In order to promote student safety and discourage theft, peer rivalry, and/or gang activity, the principal, staff, and parents/guardians at a school may establish a reasonable policy requiring students to wear uniforms.

Who is responsible for dress and grooming in San José?

San José Unified believes that the responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the student and his or her parents or guardians and that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment.

What is a school handbook?

The handbook contains a wealth of information that should be used as a guide to help you throughout the school year. You’ll find resources like the instructional calendar, a list of school organizations and committees to consider joining, expectations for attendance, behavior guidelines, and graduation requirements.

When will middle school assignments be mailed in 2021?

School Assignment Selection Process. Middle and High school assignment information will be mailed on January 13, 2021. Parents can submit their school preferences using the online Parent Portal. The portal will be open for selections on January 19, 2021. All selections must be submitted by February 5, 2021.

When will school assignments start in 2021?

Families will receive school assignment notifications beginning the week of March 8, 2021. Soon after, your school principal will contact you with information regarding instructional programs for the upcoming year. Priority Placement.

Who must include a child care affidavit with your application?

Students with a sibling currently attending the requested school. A parent/guardian who works within the requested school’s boundary. Students with childcare within the requested school’s boundary – must include a child care affidavit with your application.

Does San José Unified have ranked preferences?

Students currently enrolled in San José Unified who live within the district boundaries have an opportunity to provide three ranked preferences for their school assignment when they transition to middle or high school, unless they have a special need that determines the most appropriate school placement.
