Where does springboard support families and teachers?

In 2020, we supported families and teachers at 108 programming sites across the Bay Area, Fresno, Salinas, San Jose, Stockton, Detroit, Manor, DC, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Providence, Norwalk, Baltimore, and New York. By December 31, 2022, Springboard will help 100,000 students reach reading goals and 30,000 students read on grade level.

A New Kind of Pre-College Summer Program for Teens

Summer Springboard is different from other programs. We’ve found a fun and engaging way to give you a strong base foundation to reflect on who you are as an individual with an exciting academic curriculum where you can learn about and explore new subject areas.

Commuter Students

Commuter students may enroll in any of our programs. They participate from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Lodging, meals, and weekend excursions are not included. Lunch may be added on for a nominal fee.

Extended Commuter Students

Extended Commuter students may participate from 9am to 8pm, everyday, including weekend excursions. Lunches and dinners are also included. Lodging is not provided.

What is a springboard learning accelerator?

Springboard Learning Accelerators (SLA) provide the structure and support educators and families need to set and achieve reading goals. “Reading is learning and learning is knowledge that no one can take away. Springboard helps children gain this knowledge.”. Diane, Parent. McKinley Elementary.

What is springboard collaborative?

Springboard Collaborative closes the literacy gap by closing the gap between home and school. We coach educators and family members to help kids learn to read by 4th grade. Springboard envisions a world in which all children have the requisite literacy skills to access life opportunities.

Pre-program

In January, Springboard trains teachers to analyze assessment data, create individualized action plans, and communicate plans to families.

Program

On Mondays, each school’s dedicated coach helps teachers plan for differentiated instruction and effective parent collaboration. They return later in the week to give feedback in real-time.

Post-program

Springboard distributes educational incentives—including books and tablets—during a capstone celebration at the end of programming.

How will it benefit my school (s)?

Springboard Afterschool is a solution for bottom quartile readers for whom summer gains alone will not fully close the reading achievement gap. It is also engineered as a rigorous coaching experience for teachers.

Teacher coaching

We develop your teachers as instructional leaders by combining explicit Professional Development, real-time coaching, and applied practice in a coherent framework that maximizes growth.

Reading growth

We develop your children as readers by harnessing out-of-school-time to improve literacy for the students that need it most.

Parent engagement

We develop your parents as teachers by training and equipping family members to be effective reading coaches, enabling schools to dramatically increase instructional hours in ways that would otherwise be cost-prohibitive.
