As in previous years, families will be able to access detailed information about their child’s areas of strength, as well as any gaps in learning, by reviewing STAAR and STAAR EOC results. Parents will need to access the state’s Family Portal for all testing results by using their child’s Unique Student Access Code.
STAAR is the state's testing program and is based on state curriculum standards in core subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. STAAR tests are designed to measure what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade.
The toolkit consists of working documents that campuses can customize to communicate with families about accessing their child’s STAAR results. We hope these tools are beneficial as you build your communication plans and messages.
There is no requirement under state law that students who fail any STAAR grades 3–8 assessment repeat a grade, instead allowing STAAR results solely to serve as information on how best to support students moving forward. More changes to STAAR are coming in the 2022-23 school year.
STAAR scores will be available online for parents to view starting June 12th. Results will be mailed home when the school receives them. If you have your student's access code, enter the code and your child's birth date, then click “log in to student portal” to view scores.

What happens if a student fails STAAR? Schools must offer accelerated instruction to students who don't pass the STAAR or end-of-course exams. The additional help could include assigning a student to an experienced teacher's classroom or delivering extra tutoring during the next school year or in the summer.
