The Washington School of Ballet’s SE Campus provides programming for youth, teens, and adults following The Washington School of Ballet’s leveled curriculum. Classes are offered Monday-Saturday for the following programs: Creative Dance, Pre-Ballet, Leveled classes 1A through 6, Advanced Training Program, Teen Program, and Adult Program.
Students are accepted into The Washington School of Ballet Summer Intensive by attending an in-person placement class audition. Students attending our summer program who are also interested in enrolling in the 2022-2023 school year will be evaluated during summer classes. They do not need to attend a separate audition.

The Washington School of Ballet Pre-Ballet classes will be offered for the academic year beginning September 2021. Pre-Ballet 1: For children ages 5–6 years old. Children continue to explore basic dance principles in a creative, though progressively structured environment where ballet etiquette is first introduced.
Trainees attend classes five to six days a week and work with the senior faculty of the school, including Xiomara Reyes.
PTPB is a comprehensive program for students who aspire to the next level and for students planning to continue dance in college. A diverse offering of supplemental dance classes, in addition to daily classical ballet training, such as Flamenco, Broadway, and mime, augment a strong ballet foundation.
By working on soloist roles of the classical repertory, Trainees continue to develop their technique and artistry. All Trainees will be considered by Julie Kent , Artistic Director, and the artistic team of The Washington Ballet for Studio Company and Company positions.
The Washington School of Ballet does not offer student housing. Students in our Professional Training Division (PTD) reside in shared apartments near the school. TWSB is located in a lovely neighborhood with many apartments that will allow a nine-month lease and will provide a lease for each student individually.
The Pre Ballet Division Summer Intensive is a four-week course designed exclusively to develop ballet vocabulary within the developmental framework of the young child. Exercises promote balance, posture, special awareness, and directional patterns, all tailored to strengthen and support muscle development. There is a focus on musicality and creative self-expression.
Classes include classical ballet technique, pointe work, variations, men’s technique, character, jazz, contemporary, body conditioning, and classical repertory for both studio and virtual class groups. Students who choose the virtual option will be participating in the same class as the studio students.
Classes are taught by The Washington Ballet School Faculty, and meet two times weekly (Pre Ballet 2 and Pre Ballet 3) and one time per week (Pre Ballet 1). Each class includes a stretch and strength component in addition to the instruction of classical technique.
The Washington School of Ballet Summer Intensive gives students from around the world the opportunity to study for four to five weeks with our acclaimed faculty including Artistic Director Julie Kent, Head of SE Campus Monica Stephenson, Damien Johnson, Dr. Elena Ovchinnikova, and Margaret Williamson.

Virtual and in-person options are available for the 2021 Summer Intensive. Students who choose a virtual option will be participating in the same class as the in-studio students.
As the pandemic will be in a new phase by the beginning of our 5-week summer program, June 21, 2021, TWSB is anticipating a hybrid program. Our summer will offer the option of fully in-studio training or fully virtual training for students in the upper level five-week program.
