What is a PBIS?

PBIS is a proactive approach schools use to improve school safety and promote positive behavior. The focus of PBIS at WMS is prevention, positive behaviors and unity. Our new PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) plan is going extremely well; students and staff are joining together to earn points towards celebrations through positive behavior activities that incorporate a variety of ways to earn points. Grade levels are competing against each other in house teams to promote a sense of family and respect for others. They are able to earn points by showing school unity (grade level WMS shirts), making honor roll, having the least discipline referrals, most positive teacher referrals and more. Grades are also participating in mini PBIS lessons each quarter and contributing to a door contest to demonstrate what they are learning. The competitions have been very close, each quarter grade levels with the most points receive a special earn with the cumulative event at the end of the year as a full day celebration.
